Mina Mina Jukurrpa – Women’s Dreaming
Design based on an original painting

This design is inspired by an original painting that tells the story of the Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Dreaming). Mina Mina is a sacred site far west of Yuendumu, and it holds great cultural significance for Napangardi and Napanangka women, who are the traditional custodians of this Dreaming.

The story follows a group of ancestral women of all ages who began their journey at Mina Mina, where karlangu (digging sticks) miraculously emerged from the ground. Taking these implements, the women travelled east, gathering food, collecting Ngalyipi (snake vine – Tinospora smilacina), and performing ceremonies along the way.

As they moved across the land, the women created sacred sites such as Janyinki, and collected Jintiparnta (Elderia arenivaga), an edible fungus found in the sandhill country. Their journey extended beyond Warlpiri country, leaving behind a rich cultural map of ceremonial and ecological knowledge.

This artwork depicts the karlangu and Jintiparnta, central elements of the Mina Mina story, symbolising women’s strength, tradition, and connection to country.
